Stock Market Update - 

Sensex, on Tuesday, closed 31.5 points up at 31747. Among sectors, Teck, Auto and IT gained over 0.4% to 0.9% each. Among stocks, NTPC, Tata motors and Bajaj Auto gained over 1.8% to 2.3% each. Market breadth was negative with 1596 declines against 1135 advances.

Nifty closed 15 points up at 9,786. Today, we expect markets to open on a flat note on the back of steady global cues.

US Markets closed on a positive note. Dow closed flat and Nasdaq gained 0.3%. US markets, today, will see data releases on crude oil inventories.

Asian markets are trading on a mixed note; Nikkei is trading 0.4% lower, Hang Seng is trading 0.9% higher. SGX Nifty is trading 14 points up at 9808. Indian ADRs ended the day on a mixed note. Among financial ADRs, ICICI Bank closed 1% lower, while HDFC Bank closed flat. Among IT ADRs, Wipro closed 0.8% lower and Infosys gained 1%. Tata Motors ADR gained 1.3%.

PRE-OPEN SESSION: SENSEX CLIMBS 100 PTS, NIFTY50 ABOVE 9,800 Sensex climbs over 100 points, Nifty50 reclaims 9,800; rupee trades at 64.51 against the US dollar.

OPENING BELL: SENSEX, NIFTY OFF TO POSITIVE START Benchmark indices on Tuesday kicked off the session on a firm note, with NSE barometer Nifty50 reclaiming 9,800 level while the BSE Sensex climbing over 50 points in what analysts say was a short covering-driven rally. Shares of index heavyweights Reliance Industries Biocon rallied 8%, Airtel, Lupin gained 1% each.
